nGenWorks gives five excellent examples of difficult clients. It's vital for small businesses and consultants to learn how to spot and avoid these accounts if you want to stay affloat. Great list from a cool web design and development company.

LOL... yeah, that might cause some issues if your comment was very specific.

I also discovered the negative person in the group problem a long time ago.. This is the guy (or lady) that is against the project, thinks that they can do it better, or has a friend that they wanted to have the job, etc.. Ask to make that person the project lead and your liaison to the company.. this puts them on the hot seat and forces them to stop fighting you and start working with you since now their job is on the line too..

1) They were working with another group but couldn’t get what they needed from them.

There are positives and negatives to hearing this. The key is to try to understand what they did not like about prior group and see if you can meet their needs.

David, great point and one that I shared. It seems like this is a case by case basis. Were the client's expectations too high (in which case Lisa's article, http://sphinn.com/story/4840 is worth a read) or was there any number of perfectly understandable reasons? That point definitely needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
