Sphinn Home » Link Building
Well, well, well. The Australian media have really taken up the story with the long running show 'Media Watch' making the Lyndoman linkbait story and how it duped the Daily Telegraph their lead feature!

There is a full online transcript plus there is a podcast of the episode available at http://abc.net.au/mediawatch/vodcast/mediawatch_mp4.xml

Even Sphinn makes an appearance. We're telly celebrities, people!

Get a 404 error Kimota

Edit : got it now , so is it true that what I can tell from my own research that offline media claim they cannot afford to have every story checked out by researchers due to diminishing budgets or is that just another story ?

I agree that is a an issue as well. It becomes an arms race. The more unsubstantiated or fictional stuff on the net, the more resources needed by media to fact check.

Excellent, I love it when SEO is debated on TV. I'm just waiting for Sphinn to have its own half-hour slot on CNN soon ;)

Also got a 404. Here is a link to the actual broadcast:

http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/watch/default.htm?program=mediawatch&pres=20080526_2120&story=1

The story on Lyndoman is first, but the whole broadcast centers around truth and accuracy (or lack thereof) in the media and is very worth watching. ;)

This reinforces the notion that any publicity is good publicity. Lyndon just hooked a whale with this linkbait.

Tad, the publicity has been intense, if you actually analyse it the critics have been in the minority. The publicity has been great, I have demonstrated that I can craft a piece of content and get 14k links out of it. The critics have helped spread the word to people who know what to do with such action. .

Not many clients know what to do with that kind of heat, but those that do, are willing to pay.

So your right, any publicity, is good publicity.

Although I don't think Matt Cutts is going to be following me on Twitter.

so although the linkbait aspect helped the monkey.co.uk site with backlinks but were they ultimately happy with the results? From their response:

"The contractors responsible for this mistake are no longer associated with monkey.co.uk in any way."

i'm not bashing lyndoman. i still think this is a great story, but apparently his client did not.

@ jill - for someone who supposedly heads the ethical stance on all things online seo / marketing you would expect a little bit more decorum - heck you'll be saying 'nuke them' next, very grown-up and considerate I must say.

ROFL what does ethics have to do with decorum? You may want to check some of my other comments here. I say a lot worse then "nuke 'em"  :)

Just stating the obvious Jill -- you set yourself up as some head figure for many to look up to.

You have to behave a certain way in the public eye ... you can't have it both ways now m'lady ;)

OMG Jill!  You said "nuke em"???   I'm shocked.   When did long time women business owners get the right to say what they want to?  :)

"you would expect a little bit more decorum"

Lol, so now its a crime on Sphinn to type ROFL. You don't mind the idea of making money off lies but a little lack of decorum gets your panties in a bunch? Jill doesn't need to act like a tight-assed geek to maintain her status as a thought leader in the SEO industry. Integrity means being honest about what you believe in - regardless of politics - and standing your ground instead of kissing ass and playing fan boy.

Aint pretty is it when someone asks you to behave a certain way - how does that medicine taste you've been trying to ram down my throat for the last week or so.

Nope! I'm only trying to offer some advice [alright in a condescending manner, I agree] yourself and others don't agree with me - that's cool, it happens.

I mean we all have different viewpoints in life how things should play out.

You can! If you go to your profile, and view all that you have sphinned, you have the option of unsphinning any of them.
