You people all live in the same town and never see each other unless you're traveling to the United States! Actually, I do the same when I meet people from Seattle in places like Sydney... Very strange.

Desphunn..I am sorry , but if you wanted to donate money to a charity you could have done a completely seperate post on your blog... This is just an attempt to launch your new PPC tools and try and piggy back it onto some kind of disguised charity event .. sorry but I dont think its  right.

Hi DVOLA,

We did worry about all kinds of things like that, but I thought / hoped we had come down on the side of good here.

  • It's not in any way disguised - we started out by saying that we wanted to run a competition to celebrate the launch of our tools
  • It wasn't that we "wanted to donate money to a charity" - us just giving money to charity is not something that would be particularly interesting / worth writing about and when we do that, we don't typically blog it
  • What we hoped would happen (and indeed is happening) is that the benefit would be much larger than the financial contribution we are putting up. This has happened through a number of routes, but primarily some very generous additional financial contributions, some prizes donated and many people talking about it on their blogs / twitter etc. All of this adds up to the charity benefiting not only from the actual PPC campaign (now funded by others as well as Distilled) but also from the publicity for the cause on many other people's blogs.
I'm sorry that it appeared to offend you.

Hi Will

Iam not offended, and I realise that you were very forth coming at the start of your post about your intentions ... but they are exactly that ... "lets launch our new tools and try and get a charity thing on board to disguise it"  Or thats how it looks from this angle...

As lets face "my blog launches new tools" wouldnt exactly have gone hot on here... I dont know maybe I am wrong...

I just think a better way would have been " Internet marketers and SEO,s to help Burma victims"

rather than doing the two together... and for that reason I am against it and not taking part..

However let me know where I can make a straight donation and I will be happy to do so.

Hi DVOLA,

I still maintain that there is no 'disguising' going on - we have been very upfront about both angles of what we are doing. Sure, we want people to know about us and our tools. All companies do. But there is genuine good happening here as well in my opinion.

Nevertheless, I'm glad that you'd like to donate. The US link is here and the UK site is here.
