Well I don't like it.  It hasn't filtered through to the subdomains such as Blogsearch (blogsearch.google.com) yet.  Perhaps they'll withdraw it when they see the reaction.

New favicon on Google, yea. I don't think any other favicon has been buzzed so hard yet.

There is no pun Sphunn in Sphinn today.

Mini-g, the favicon.
That you noted it and related discussions is pure roundtable. That so many folks I admire thought it Sphinn-worthy concerns me. Is it just that iamlost or that rustybrick is so cool?

Barry, I thought your description was fine!

At the same time I wonder if this is a beta?  This move seems kind of odd in terms of branding because I don't think most users identify the lower case or second g in "Google" as being the same font used in the new favicon.  I think the original "G" without the box would be better for users and branding than "g"!  Just my two cents...  Honestly, it's a little ridiculous that a favicon change can create such a buzz...
