The community of North Oaks, Minnesota, has requested that all street-level images of their community be removed from Google Maps. North Oaks has 100% privately-held roads and land, and uninvited users of the roads are considered trespassers. Because Google gets street-level images using a car with a dashboard camera, the collection of street-level images of the community was accomplished via trespass.
While this is a somewhat unique case, as even many gated communities have public roads, this is an interesting moment for Google Maps as it highlights how more people are concerned about how images of streets and homes may violate privacy.
