Yes, we've known about this issue and have twice gone through the appropriate process to be removed from the list - but have not had any response. It's interesting that this occurred, because the only emails sent from Sphinn are the confirmations when a user signs up, notifications to submitters if an admin has changed a submission, and confirmations when a user submits an item to the calendar. It's (obviously) completely opt-in, there is no mass mail sent, nor is there even mailing list software installed on the server.
The process of getting on this particular list involves sending mail to a spam trap email address. So someone (with knowledge of one of these email addresses) could have signed up at Sphinn using one. Malicious? Yes. Out of the realm of possiblity? Sadly, no.
Their guidelines also mention that new domains (Sphinn is a new domain) may be added to the list as well - so it could be just that.
If anyone has any tips on how to better get their attention and get removed from the list, please contact me - admin@sphinn.com. Thanks!
Michelle, the problem with SURBL is that you can get added when you have done nothing wrong. All it takes for them to list you is enough spam emails hitting SpamCop that include your domain name in the text.
For the record, not that anyone cares, but I hate the anti-spam nazis more than I hate spam..
To make matters worse SURBL then take no responsibility for their actions, I went through a similar thing with them a few months ago you may wish to try http://www.surbl.org/lists.html#removal
But I wouldn't hold your breath
@tnash - thanks, yes, that's the process we've tried (twice) - no response, no reply, still on the list. I think I'm with Feydakin on this one :-)

I am sure I see some evil applications build on this :)
