There is a new trend starting to happen that now involves using a blog to advertise your career profile and resume towards finding the perfect job.
While I'll admit, using places such as CareerBuilder.com exist, the quality of the content in these places have dropped tremendously. Most sites such as CareerBuilder.com are infested with spam job offers including various bogus work from home job offers.
So what can an individual do who is looking for that perfect job? Perhaps starting a blog and marketing yourself and your experience and qualities is the true answer. Couple that with some basic SEO and SEM strategies and you might find your phone ringing off the hook.

I agree, blogs can be used for so many different things. It only makes sense to setup a blog for your professional resume.
I think there are many bloggers out there who have amazing qualities while working jobs that don't suit their needs at a level of which they feel satisified with. Amazingly, I can easily see how if a blogger was to invest sometime into using their blog for marketing and promoting their own qualities towards finding employers interested in them, the results would be amazing.
While many bloggers are working dead end jobs at Wal-mart or at the local gas station, in their free time at night they can use blogging, social networks and even search engines to allow employers find them.
All in all, it sure beats digging through the CareerBuilder.com garbage.
I've gotten jobs from internet sites that I've built, but never directly from blogging. Honestly, it can work either way, but there are definitely some positions out there for which them seeing your blogging history can be a positive for you.
I have no idea? I have been trying to figure that one out for years! :)
Absolutely! I started my blog as a personal branding exercise. Graphic designers have their portfolios... I have my blog to demonstrate my skills, thoughts & expertise. Not long after I started it I landed a new job at the biggest digital agency in the country. I'm certain my blog played a strong part in that employment opportunity.
Yeah, in some ways I think a blog is a better resume than a resume. I'm not sure I'd hire someone who didn't blog.
It's true..blogging can be a good source of income especially if you the talent and passion for writing..you will definitely succeed on this one..^^
It certainly is a way to show a prospective employer that you are an expert in your field. The more community you have built around it, the better it wil reflect on your overall abilities to impact your market space.
This makes sense in terms of the trend of things; I doubt that potential employers will be thrilled to see that your resume is on a blog. Personally I rather something in my hands or that is easily printed out.
My blog landed me a bigger writing job. But I have to say, it's not as easy at it may seem to a lot of new bloggers. Be prepared to devote some time on unique, innovative content if you want your blog to pay off that car note.
Currently Employed due to personal promotion, and hardwork with personal site and blogging. There is no greater power than signing your cover letters with a web address where your future employer can read all about you...yes this is a good thing, because if it isn't a good fit wouldn't you rather find out sooner rather than later?
@ net relief Your resume = your about page...how can you get mad at an about page?
Though it has yet to lead to a full-time job, my Copyeditor General blog did get me a small book-reviewing gig. Not bad for something I started for fun. I think anyone who hopes to make a living in communication should maintain a blog, as much to keep the skills sharp as to use as a resume enhancement.
I got my job pretty much as a direct result of my blogging.
My boss took a look at the blog I managed for my last company (that had my name plastered all over it, for just this reason) said "I want that" and hired me.
Third day here, and I love it.
Thanks blogging!
I could never have got my current job without my other skills and abilities, but my blog played a big part in clinching the deal because the organisation is looking to introduce blogging and wants more blogging expertise...
And actually, that was one of the main reasons I created the blog - to help market myself to potential employers.
Wow, it's really cool to see how blogging can impact current and future employment. I am actually really pleased to see these results as I think in many ways you can use your blog to shape and mold the perfect job. Nice work guys! Very happy to see that this brought out so many cool comments. :)
