Yikes! "I received an email this weekend from Yahoo saying that they were updating their Terms & Conditions for their search marketing accounts. In summary, Yahoo is going to optimize your PPC account without prior knowledge of or approval by advertisers."

Wow, scary stuff. Can’t believe it’s opt out not opt in. Doesn’t really seem right.

When will companies learn that opt out is severly retarded?

When the company that I’m paying to advertise is deciding how and where I advertise, what’s to stop them from setting up a wasteful, expensive campaign? This trumps Google opting me in for keywords I didn’t purchase....BOO

I wonder what kind of reaction Yahoo expected from search marketing professionals. It is quite insulting.

Yahoo never continue to amaze me with how bad they are...come on Microsoft...save Yahoo from themselves!

Once again, Yahoo! makes a strategic move for last place...when will these bozos learn that their customers are smarter than they theink they are. No one needs an inept compnay looking over their shoulder and running their business. If only Yahoo! and MSN would get together...then we’d have all the losers in one place so we could keep our eyes on them. End of Line.

I informed them on behalf of all my clients that we don’t want account optimization, we don’t want to have to monitor it and take back changes that THEY make, and if they can’t assure is that it will not occur on our accounts, we will pull every single one out of Yahoo completely.  Probably won’t make a dent, but if enough people did the same, they’d change their tune.  If Google did such a thing, you wouldn’t be able to hear your own voice past the screams of outrage.

Maybe Microsoft should go ahead and hijack Yahoo without prior knowledge of or approval by shareholders.

Is this a precursor to an even more opaque system? They now have minimum bids...perhaps this indicates that on average, advertisers won’t have enough information to make changes effectively, even through 3rd party API driven bid management tools. They did buy index tools however so you have to wonder how that plays into this. Yahoo is desp to improve cash flow - at my expense! So long Yerry Yang and Dave Foolo, it was nice while it lasted.

Joe (the author) and I are looking into a way to work around this mess.  Basically, there’s no way we’re going to have upwards of 30 Yahoo accounts tampered with beyond our control.  We’ll let you know something when we know something...
