The casino watches your every move, trying to spot people gaming the system. Sound familiar.

Interesting analogy, the casino doesnt like or let card counters play, because they remove the casinos advantage ...
I have always refered to such penalty as "honesty tax".
I dont think I was ever that good at analogies though. Great post John ;)
Very eye-opening article. Thanks.
Great analogy. Im waiting on the follow up post... "how to consistently beat the house" Any of you been in a casino lately? With the increasing computerized equipment, and the games that show stats (like electronic roulette), its an interesting place for the SEO mind.
honesty tax - funny!
I dont agree with the whole article... this kind of statement turns me off: "Google doesn’t want you to make profit, except as it allows. So when you do something that makes profits beyond where Google wants to allow, you are at risk of being managed by Google." But it was a fun read. Could be the thesis for a new Michael Lewis book.

I suppose I am destined to forever be called "johnjohn" by Lyndon? When the big Borgata casino opened in Atlantic City (my old stompin grounds) it was a big disappointment because it was all automated. Almost no cash... tickets and tokens and ATM-like machines. So sterile. We all know casinos are "high tech" but who wants to feel it every second? I still like Barbary Coast in Las Vegas, with one remaining table of single-deck blackjack, hand shuffled.
Cool - two analogies for the price of one. Thanks John and flyingrose.
