There are a number of great keyword research tools out there (paid tools and free tools, too). Many times, however, I really wonder if I’m doing enough work to get into the mind of the customers. Here are 3 ways you can learn what the customer is saying.

Great timing for this post - I was just going over the importance of getting into the customers’ minds with a coworker earlier today. It’s too easy to look at KW tools and think we know what people are searching for - that’s not always the case. These are some great suggestions for unearthing the words that are actually used to search for a client’s products/services.

Instead of getting hands on with the customers a less obtrusive method is to get your client to setup analytics if they are already ranking for terms, and if they are not get them to setup analytics and do a PPC campaign targetting some of the keywords for a month. This way you will see what the customer wants by what converts ;)

Funny and true. But do not treat people like "tools".

Here’s another unconventional keyword research tool which I’ve had a lot of success with: www.seedkeywords.com

These 3 are indeed pretty uncommon to be used as a keyword research tool..anyways thanks for giving us an idea.
