Some really definitive answers, surprisingly. Now I know: link bait can be legit and reciprocal linking is not necessarily a bad thing... very nice
Lots of really great insight and especially on widgets!
Very informative indeed.
However, I would have used on the interview this recent photo of Matt instead of this old one :-)
Can anyone spot a single natural link given in that extremely long article with countless websites mentioned? Ohh unless you count the only link on the page (i.e. to matts blog) within the content section?
The reality is that he has spread so much FUD his killing the natural linking process as everyone is to afraid to give links.
My bad on the outbound link implementation. I have fixed it in the article. I could not find links to the gmail study by Danny S, or the Aaron Wall post on keyword research that Matt referenced. If any one knows of the correct links to those, please let me know, and I will add them.
My mistake on the initial release of this article aside, I believe that outbound links are an important part of developing an authoritative sites (and drawing links from others).
Not bad, but most of what Matt has been saying should be common sense for anyone not suffering from SEO tunnel vision. For the life of me I cannot understand why Google needs our help with spam control and the "good thing" that Social Spark uses no follows is being praised.
A very good insight into what is likely to work, and what is likely to not work in the future.
MikeDammann,
Talking about Matt. I see him issuing a warning on twitter
"Don't lie in a reconsideration request. Just don't go there at all. Makes Matt *angry*! Matt smash spam!" :-)
Forgive me for not having followed Matt until now.
The last Matt Cutts interview was phenomenal; this one is just as good. And I'm not just saying that because I downed a few Heinekens.
Does anyone have an HR contact for Zappos? :-)
