Not just .co.uk, companies should seriously think about buying every domain extension available. The costs are really minimal compared to the lawsuits in trying to reclaim it.

We've come across this problem a lot dealing with the Russian market but it's not the only place. Google spent several years here fighting to get Google.ru back from the first buyer and even now have not managed to secure Google.ua in Ukraine (they are using the lesser branded Google.co.ua).
