Sphunn!
Very interesting reading, indeed. Thanks, Mike.
Thank you, Harith!
As I have stated, many things Doug has been saying, I have disagreed on. I do however respect how he has never changed his tune when so many have in the same timespan he has stood his ground.
This was an excellent experience, and I will take my time before I select the next interview to be published! :)
"He had told me about a great trick for achieving that. Altavista banned
my site because of it for about one year." It's interesting to note that Doug says that he got a site banned for a year at Altavista.
Good article, Thanks Mike.
I'm a big fan of Mike and his searchfeatured column. This interview was very thought provoking and I learned a lot of stuffs.
Mike,
Very good interview! Thought provoking. I don't know how you get so many good ones but this is probably one your best.
I'm just being myself asking stuff that I want to know. Doesn't take a genius to pull this off. ;)
While I can appreciate Doug’s strong and unwavering stance on the beliefs he houses, I tend to disagree with some of what he has stated.
It is a dog eat dog world out there on the net.
While everyone wants to play by the “right” set of rules aka “hard work,
good working attitude, and dedication” if an opportunity was place in front of them to advance to the next level… no doubt in my mind 90% of these people would take it- make it undetectable and you are looking at about 99.9% of them.
People are too naïve as it is in believing that playing by these unilateral unwritten online rules will make people wildly successful.
I am also somewhat surprised on his views in regards to social media. I believe social networking sites are truly becoming main stream and to ignore what is potentially the biggest platform that will embrace the future seems surprising. Even if he doesn’t feel it is currently relevant.. if he is interested in teaching, then I would still imagine he would want to incorporate a bit of it.
I think that when it comes to Social Media, there is a generation gap which is tough to overcome. Many people over 40 just don't get the purpose thereof, while kids these days are so hooked on them. For example: On Doug's forum a new search engine is being discussed which adds social media. I believe that that is THE way to compete with the big boys. Social media is not just a trend IMO. It's what people want and people are going to get.
Nice article Mike - Nice article Doug
