Getting onto the front page of a smaller, more appropriate niche portal, by contrast, is much easier, quicker, and ultimately you get a better return on your time/traffic ration in the short run. Interesting article but jut to be clear on two of the sites mentioned (that they don’t ever make the homepage on digg): Little Green Footballs has actually made the Digg homepage many times: http://digg.com/search?s=littlegreenfootballs.com&submit=Search§ion=all&type=url&area=promoted&sort=new Same is true with DumbLittleMan: http://digg.com/search?s=dumblittleman.com&submit=Search§ion=all&type=url&area=promoted&sort=new (last being just 8 days ago) Also - I wouldn’t say that being on the homepage of niche sites are better but rather a good complement to Digg... If I had the choice between Digg or 10 niche sites - 9.9 out of 10 times I would choose Digg. Good points though pointing out some of the benefits of niche sites . BTW - dzone is great. They consistently send traffic to your site (even months later). Not a whole lot but its quality.
