Buy me a few beers and I’ll drop U a link my friends!
Ok, maybe I am being a tad cheeky today, but Matt decided to highlight the interview he did, so why not? Reading the article on USA Today he mentions;

“In a nutshell: Google ranks sites based on popularity. If authoritative sites link to you, you must be good, and therefore you get to the top of the list. If you can't get top sites such as USATODAY.com or The New York Times to link to you, try your friends. And what if they don't have a site? They probably do. Read on.”

I thought to myself, ‘Hey I have a few hundred friends on Sphinn and other social locales – let’s get some links!!’ – Now I am not suggesting that you do anything more than buy me a couple pints as mates, helping a fella down on his luck….

..and if there is anything I can ever do to pay you back for this favour; just let me know. What’s that? You say you have a website? Wow, how cool…. Matt Cutts of Google said you should get friends to link to you? Ok, then it must be ok… sure, I’d be happy to!!

So what are you waiting for? Can anyone spare a few bucks so this Gypsy can get a pint or two?

Sigh, I simply wanted to highlight the fuzzy nature of the whole links game and once more muse at where the lines get moved about as far as what constitutes payment. I can’t BUY links, but I can whore my ass out to my ‘friends’? Yeeesh….

Oh, and what about relevancy? If all my friends had websites on a variety of topics NOT related to my site theme, linking out to unrelated websites could potentially hurt me I thought? Why no mention of this one MC? Tsk tsk….

Anyhoo…. Just musing on a Monday morning…..
