Well, there are some interesting ideas in the cre8 thread, one patent that may or may not be in use, and the results of one test. The SEW article is one of the ones my article specifically attacks for making claims without backing any of them up.
Image search is still too vulnerable to competition for me to whip out a comprehensive checklist. One obvious strategy though is to place as many links / thumbs to images on a page with decent TBPR. Another obvious tweak is to use images with resolution high enough to show up for Large Size image searches. And of course never forget to include a framebreaker script, since people like me will jump straight to the image file instead of looking at the page an image is on. If you have images on your blog, think about displaying full posts on your category pages, since those images are more likely to get indexed (category pages typically has higher PageRank than blog post pages). Otherwise, your single posts may be too weak for your images to get indexed.
