What does where someone is located or what nationality they are have to do with the quality of any individual person or company's products or services?

Ahhhh, have you ever outsourced? I have! In the last 10 years I've done a heck of alot of application development both here and off shore.

First, I think it's always easiest to have a development team sitting next to you. You can't beat being able to look at something together while it's being developed - regardless of their nationality :)

What about outsourcing? I've used teams in Russia, Ukraine and various parts of India. What have I learned? It's easy to get into trouble when you're separated by thousands of miles and have virtually no legal course of action. Fortunately that's never become an issue for me as I've always started with small projects and worked my way up to large ones.

If you don't mind working late as India is around 10 hours ahead, and you like to use Skype and web cams then you'll likely do fine. The Indian teams I've used have for the most part been pretty darn good at what they do. If you want to know who I am using, I will be happy to tell you. Some developers have much better quality though - so it depends on what kind of application you want developed and what level of quality / cost you want.

I've never tried outsourcing Internet marketing though - just development. The Internet marketing thing is far too much of an art to want to try and outsource.

Finally - negotiating price is always fun. North Americans don't haggle, but the rest of the world does. If you want tips on that too, just let me know!
