Isn't this the same flawed logic that leads people to believe in alien landings simply because the government denies that aliens have landed?

Google: Oh, well when you phrase it that way, we are using toolbar data. By the way, you could have just asked the original question three times and we also would have been forced to answer.
It gives a hint of how it is made up but no outcome on how close the numbers are to reality. I hear companies telling different numbers of unque visitors.
I think we'll just have to wait for companies and institutions to start complaining about false numbers of unique visitors.Google will have to come out and reveal more or they will likely be called out for damaging reputations of websites. Interesting to watch.
