NebuAd was ridiculous.
Putting in hardware that sends every byte on every page to its central servers, where NebuAd decides what data to process and what to ignore -- yeah, users weren't ever going to accept that. You might as well tap my phone so you can line up "the right telemarketers" to call me at dinner.
And then to have it actually inject code into other people's web pages -- how on Earth weren't people going to object to that?!
I can't fault NebuAd for trying -- moreover, I fault the ISPs that entered into this conflict of their customers' Interests and trust.
I think Behavioral Targeting is better a blend of BT and Contextual Advertising. If you see me on three occasions on pages that talk about male hair products, then you can put some ads about male hair products on pages I visit about cars.
Eavesdropping, wiretapping, and intercepting -- that's just not to be done.
