A recent presentation at KDD 07 with Yahoo's Chief Data Officer, Usama Fayyad, describes some interesting Yahoo case studies on advertising that are definitely worth watching if you use paid search. The one on Harris Direct provides some intriguing numbers showing the effectiveness of combining a brand building banner ad campaign with search-based ads.

Some nice insights involving Flickr and Yahoo Answers are included in the same presentation.
