I agree to a fair extent, but what about the keywords that assit in the buying cycle? You know, not the last referring keywords... the ones that find the searcher before they come back on brand or something similar. I don’t think AdWords conversion tracking will help you with that? Or am I missing something?

@semanjoe You’re right, you’ll need something more sophisticated than that, or you can try to get it through GA, or set up more AdW conversion types relevant to the buying cycle (even views of a key page, etc.)  We usually use more than just they key conversion, but also things like email signups and views of key pages.  Still, you’ve got to decide how much you can spend on "conversions" that are just stages in the buying cycle and aren’t your money-making conversions; Then again, if it’s a big ticket item with long sales cycle, then check out ActiveConversion, Fred Yee’s product.  I just did an interview with him and will be putting that out asap.
