Adobe announced today that it is teaming up with major search engines - notably Google and Yahoo - to "dramatically improve search results of dynamic Web content and rich Internet applications (RIAs)." In a press statement, Adobe said that it is "providing optimized Adobe Flash Player technology to Google and Yahoo! to enhance search engine indexing of the Flash file format (SWF) and uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines."

Adobe claims that it will provide more relevant search results and rankings for RIA content. In a separate blog post, Google announced that it has launched a "Flash indexing algorithm", which will result in better search results.

We'll see. Or we won't. Until now I have never seen Flash docs really ranking for anything useful and not very long tail.

Sorry, this is a little off topic but...

It does amuse me that Microsoft is not included!

Silverlight v Flash?

Adobe is so dominent with 98% of the world's computers already have flash player installed. Why has Microsoft even attempted to compete? Have they not learnt with their attempt to take on Google as the number one search engine?

I am with purpleview, perphaps the most amusing part is that Microsoft was either left out or simply decided not to join this project. Either way it is just one more reason that will leave them at the number three spot for search engines. Anyway, this is a huge breakthrough for Flash. I am sure it will not have Flash dominating the search results, but it is a step in the right direction.

Things is that
Headline
works in HTML -- not in flash. URL parsing? No problem. Anchor text? Do we get that now? I'll believe it when I see it.

This is actually very misleading.

Macromedia released an SDK to enable search engines to index and search SWF files in 2002.

Adobe seem to have "forgotten" a lot of this as most of the links are now defunct, but this still exists

I got one of my guys to check it properly, and it certainly appears that Googles indexing of Flash has improved significantly. http://www.search-engine-war.co.uk/2008/07/flash-time-to-c.html

@ Ruud. If you read the Google information it clearly states that if you don't have text in a button object they wont be able to get any anchor text. Flip that around and it reads as if a button does have text they will be able to use it as anchor text.
