Very often with large dynamic sites webmasters just can’t do without pagination. Apart from usability here they come across another serious issue: duplicate content.

The thing is that all pages normally have identical titles and meta description and while some SEOs think it’s not an issue at all (as search engines “don’t see identical titles as duplicate content”), I do believe that this may at least result in inadequate site crawling rate and depth.

Yeah, this is really an issue. From a usability point of view the "one article in 9 pages" stories are a killer. I never click all of them. I guess the old media sites using this type of pagination just want to inflate their pageviews this way...

Per my comment on Ann's post, my experience is that it's a likely a false notion that these extra pages are creating significantly more page views.  Nobody like pagination.

It is really important to make sure as possible as you can that ypur pages and content were not duplicated..that way you won't be penalized by the search engines.
