From the page "The issues we face with our children and our "web babies" are often more pretty similar -- and so are the solutions. So what’s the best way to deal with an unpopularity problem?"

Great analogy. I live in a small town, and one of my prospective clients told me, "We had a web page once and it didn’t do anything for us." Hmmm...where do you start?

You could start by showing and discussing your own successes online - dangle that in front of him/her and see their response. Admit to them its a competitive world and work and money is involved...

An excellent article as always from Diane, and a great analogy to use. I guess for most of us, our website is our baby!

Kathy, that is a tricky one. How do you tell someone their "child" is a loser? Not an easy task. I think ukdaz is on the right track. Try to refocus their attention on the potential for future success if they make the needed improvements rather than letting them wallow in previous disappointments. Just be sure to set reasonable expectations. It’s usually only in movies that a kid goes from dorky loser to prom queen in the space of a few days. :) Tamecrow, I’m blushing over here. You’re too kind!
