It ALMOST seems like a standard in the industry…the mysterious link builder…hiding behind closed doors…where do they get all those quality links? How can I get some of those much sought after links for my client? The answer to this old-age question is surprisingly simple. They have to SEARCH for them just like anything else.

This is a good start but there’s alot more filtering that needs to be done than just checking a page’s TBPR. For example, in some cases, you may not want to overlook TBPR 0 links from authority sites, or you may find TBPR 5 links that are nofollowed, or encounter pages that have a META ROBOTS nofollow. Often a top-down approach simplifies the process (just make a topically-relevant list of blogs, social networks, directories, forums, article directories, etc) and only using a bottom-up approach for links that are "out of the norm", so-to-speak (e.g. a page linking only to businesses on a particular city street).

SEOQuake pretty much takes care of the donkey work mentioned in this article. Personally I’m not totally convinced by this approach. I’ve uncovered some very shady looking links when investigating links of other sites. If can find them and see how they are obviously spam, why can’t Google?d
