Chasing rankings, vs. chasing what’s best for the business. Which is the fools choice?

I recently spoke with a prospect who was already doing very well in general and who had great rankings in Google. His only problem was his Yahoo rankings. I ran a Xenu report that returned a few bad internal links, sent him the results, and turned down the project because he really didn’t need my help.

I’ll be the first here to claim the title of SEO Fool. I’ll admit getting into wanting to rank over ROI too many times, but not on Yahoo! vs. google. For you Pros, I think it’s best to educate and keep your clients focused on the big picture.

Most "clients" have had no concept of building a business, versus google rankings. I turn more away, based on the knowledge organic results won’t do a thing for their business. A few come back after chasing their tail.
