beat me to it Zak! Excellent post Dave, the amount of charlatans ultimately gives everyone using the term SEO a bad name, but in the long run creates more work for us too ;)
Well, I have a post I am polishing for Collective Thoughts relating to standards of quality... this rant was actually unrelated, but should tie in well..... glad ya had fun with it......tnx fer the SPhinn as always Zak....

At last, someone else that stands up and calls out some of the bullshit methods that somehow try to be passed off as "SEO" these days.
Great post Dave. I totally agree with g1smd above! Read this post and find out why "Your SEO is weak my foolish friends"
Well, there have been many REPUTABLE blogs that mention tactics that verge on simple spamming... social media spamming, comment spamming..... when in the end if youre trying make silk from a sows ear for short term gain you are nothing more than an infomercial. To me SEO is as much about the websites you work on/for as it is about the methods. The quick hit artist usually is weak and looks for short cuts in their methods. Anyway, was but a rant - a bee in my bonnet.
Preach on Reverend
A justifiable rant on how other SEO experts pretend they know everything about SEO.
While some of the things you mention certainly are ridiculous (kw stuffing, 3 way links, etc), I think a lot of the other items you mention boil down to your personal choice of methods. Its not like black hat techniques arent SEO, they absolutely are, they just are aiming to achieve different goals. It might not be your cup of tea but I certainly wouldnt call it weak.If you chose to make your living creating 1,000 sites that make $1 a day or youd rather create one site that makes $1,000 a day, I dont think either one is inherantly better than the other.
It seems a few folks missed where I was saying if they were a predominant part of a system... then methinks it is BS. As for black hat short term gain, that is another SEO.... Search Engine Oportunist ;0)
