Yes, that’s advanced SEO :-) http://sphinn.com/story/58506but don’t forget that content alone won’t make it.

No, Matt Cutts did not have me in a head lock when I wrote this. Linkbait + natural content rocks the house.

Great if you’re a social media power user and can get useful traffic that way, but most seos aren’t. You can write good natural content that targets long tail keywords AND still promote with seo. An unknown/new website could write all the great posts in the world and never get noticed if they simply forget seo.

You need both content and marketing obviously not either or, but the formula I go by is content 90/marketing 10 - many SEOs got it backwards. While link bait doesn’t get you targeted anchor text you can build authority with thousands of organic, editorial links, and then like Lyndon wrote earlier, funnal that authority into "natural content" using internal anchor text.

DarkMatter, it really isn’t that difficult to get noticed if you have quality content. Network with a few people in your niche and provide an example of your amazing content and you’re on your way. If your content would appeal to social media, contact a power user and if your content is really high quality, they’ll gladly submit it.
