Our findings show that, in general, lots of mainstream sites are very good at linking out and that there is a direct correlation between the number of links they give and the number of links they receive.

Did you include links from the blogs when calculating coefficient? If not, that's the number I'd like to see rather than one overall figure. I think the blogs, which have a much smaller audience, could be skewing the data. Intuitively it seems to me that mainstream media sites don't link out from their main sites and that has little impact on the links coming in.
