Interesting post, but you start off on the wrong foot by putting words in Aaron's mouth:
"For a dying industry, it sure is growing."
He didn't say the SEO industry is dying.
His words: "I do not like doing much traditional SEO client work, and see the business model as having limited longterm value for most SEO consultants."

Yes, the perspective is key here and I can very much relate to Aaron's stance. After a while you get tired of SEO consulting and fixing the same issues on broken sites again and again while you could develop new high quality sites for yourself.
