Just checking through today’s top stories on the Digg homepage and I noticed that Engadget’s story from today’s Apple event in London was followed 2 hours and 50 minutes later with a summary post focusing on the main news from the event; Apple iPhone hits O2 in the UK on November 9th.

Digg gives you a warning that your submission may be a duplicate but it is often ignored and posted anyway. The one with the best headline or the poster with the most Digg friends usually wins.

They are 2nd in terms of sites that have hit the digg homepage the most times Not surprised they’ve hit it twice in a row. My profile best was having three submissions on the homepage in a row ;)

Webclimb: not necessarily true. If two posts from the same source are submitted within seconds of each other, Digg keeps the submissions separate. They said that they were working on a merge feature when I complained about it, but they’re not reliable with promises. Another thing: duplicate submissions are permitted because Digg believes that the content of a duplicate submission may be superior to the original submission. It’s in their FAQ. As I pointed out to Kevin, however, this *always* happens when a big announcement comes from Apple. Those are two different stories from Engadget, not two submissions from the same URL. Apple fanboys run wild on Digg when Steve Jobs holds a keynote. You should’ve seen Digg on September 5th. It’s listed on the Digg archive (http://digg.com/archive) for the rest of the month. And Engadget, Gizmodo, Tuaw, and other Apple blogs were ALL over Digg’s front page multiple times that day.
