Thanks Eric. The only reason I have interviewed him was because his name is almost as cool as mine. ;)

And if any of you has any questions for him, I will make sure he will get them, too. :)

Nice interview Mike - if he's right about actual traffic being 10% of what is shown.....I'm in trouble.

I have suspected that for a long time, but when he said it. I took his word and it made sense.

Sorry to go against the grain here (and nothing against you Mike) but I don't think he offers anything of value in this interview.

He obviously rushed some of his responses:

"I was very late to blogging because I thought it was inherently
arrogant–that is, that you had to believe cared what you thought about
everything.
" - What?

"You need to ask Neil Patel or Darren Prowse about
this stuff.
" - Prowse?

I'll admit I originally Sphunn this because I'm a big fan of Guy's but I didn't really take anything out of this

I agree with ViperChill. I'm also a Guy fan, congrats on nailing this interview, and someone emailed me today asking me to vote this up so I did look around for a reason to do that, but sorry his answers just doesn't have enough teeth for me to Sphinn it.

Just to add, I 'desphinned' it because I had Sphunn it originally, usually i would just let it go :)

I desphinned it just to piss off the mods, since some of them seems not to like seeing legit submits desphunn. Seriously though, if this wasn't on the verge of going hot I would have also just let it go. I'm sure this will go hot regardless.

I'm sure it will, I love how submitter / site owner is thumbing down our comments as well ;)

Just for the record, I Sphunn it because:
1. I was happy to see Guy get attention
2. The value behind a newcomer (otherwise underacknowledged one) managing to obtain the interview. I think it's encouraging and is an 'unwritten' message of "Yea, cool..how'd he manage that one? Maybe I can do that. Hmmm, who can I ask? Maybe this newguy knows more than I do. I'll ask him"..Then the new guy gets new friends, and has a shot at some quality future attention in HIS efforts, mutual support is built and voila..the community expands as it should.

Over time, the newcomers quality in Q&A will also have an opportunity to blossom, and so on.

I'd like to think that there are many who partake of Sphinn that are new marketers/SEO's or even a CONSUMER who is trying to learn of the ones they may need to pay for services.

Milk before meat concept.

Not everyone of the thousands here are familiar with Guy or his 'breakfast.' ;-)

Now, on the comment down-voting thing..that's another issue altogether..You my be surprised how an honest opinion can possibly be of benefit to you in the future. Halfdeck for one..A lot of great feedback comes from his direction. He was just speaking his mind. :-) (VP too)

Don't know who " submitter / site owner" refers to - but -  to be clear and try to prevent someone else taking any grief for something they did not do - 2 of those 'thumb downs' are mine.

Why?  Keeping in mind that this is only MY opinion of the COMMENTS themselves and the reasoning behind them as stated IN each comment - I 'thumbed down' 2 comments because IMHO they sounded like something one would expect from a couple of spiteful little children.

One desphin reason was - "I'll admit I originally Sphunn this because I'm a big fan of Guy's but I didn't really take anything out of this" and "Just to add, I 'desphinned' it because I had Sphunn it originally, usually i would just let it go :)"
MY opinion - Don't Sphinn just because you 'like' someone.  Instead, Sphinn because you like the article, or, as stated IN the comment - "just let it go"

And the reason for the other desphinn - "I desphinned it just to piss off the mods..."
MY opinion - Grow up, or again - as stated IN the comment - "just let it go".

If these comments were in reality actually made by little children - my sincere apologies.  I certainly cannot and do not expect little children to exhibit the same level of maturity as older persons/adults.

just my .02.

"I love how submitter / site owner is thumbing down our comments as well ;)"

I'm shocked :)

Another reason for my desphinn is the buddy voting on this submit and the fact that I never get an IM from this guy unless he wants me to sphinn something.

Look at all the real estate buddies voting this up, just for shits and giggles:

The submitter obviously is into RE and Mike's buddy, waynelong (columbus ga real estate), a REW member based in AZ, Eric Bramlett's home turf, lasvegasguy, ericblackwell (bloodhound editor), lipply (tampa based real estate dude), JGFox (Eric Bramlet's fan - submitted 3 of Eric's posts on sphinn), CindyB and SEOsally who seems to be infatuated with firetown/searchfeature posts.

Plus the fact that I got an IM asking me to vote it up as a favor to Mike...and despite all the buddy votes I would have if the post rocked.

BTW I'm not saying those Sphinn accounts are rotten apples - I had cool convos in the past with Erics and Mike - just saying if you want to run a Sphinn-gaming brigade keep me out of it or at least make sure the link you're pinging me with is phenomenal.

"I desphinned it just to piss off the mods"

DLPerry, like I said in that comment, I was kidding. So hold your fire.

@viperchill the same thing happened in my interview with Guy - pretty light on content compared to responses I've received from people like Danny, Rand, Barry, Chris Sherman and others, but I was happy to get his attention. http://tinyurl.com/6fx5lp

My apologies HD, I am sorry.  I tend to take things pretty seriously at times, and I honestly did not get the impression that the comment was in jest - my mistake, and no 'fire' intended. :)
Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.  Back to lurk mode.

@Halfdeck - I can appreciate your opinion of the interview, but I see nothing wrong with emailing/IMing a few friends and letting them know about it.  I don't think it's "gaming" sphinn.  If it were a BS post of no value, then there would be a problem.  Mike scored a greate interviewee (as he's done in the past, and will do in the future.)  He deserves some publicity, and he'll get it.

Did you happen to check out any of the other interviews while you were there?  You obviously didn't like Guy Kawasaki's responses, but there are a few others that go into real depth.

I love seeing two people set records striaght in commentary. No grudge holding and acting like real people. That's cooooooooool.

"My apologies HD"

Hey, no worries.

"Mike scored a greate interviewee...He deserves some publicity"

Hats off to Mike on that, like I said. But I don't sphinn to pat people on the back.

"If it were a BS post of no value"

This one was cutting pretty close.

"I see nothing wrong with emailing/IMing a few friends"

Sure, IM away - like I said nothing wrong with voting something up as long as the post deserves to be on the front page. If you want, dig up AimClear's arguments supporting that practice which he later retracted after becoming a more seasoned Sphinner.

Also check my sphinn count - I've been here since launch and only ~800 sphinns. I'm not exactly trigger happy. So the main reason for sending me a link better not be to give a friend more publicity. That's not what Sphinn's front page is for.

BTW Check out CindyB's sphinn log and tell me it looks pretty.

"Did you happen to check out any of the other interviews while you were there?"

Sure, but the other interviews have nothing to do with this interview.

OK guys, first let me say this: I agree when you guys say that there is not enough. But I also want to make clear that the purpose of search feature is to introduce you guys to the people who make an impact in the internet marketing world. I like asking personal questions and get an idea on who the guys behind the empires really are. I don't want to keep on asking questions that have been asked on millions of other seo sites by other interviewers. Those who want to know more about what the interviewees do, can follow the links on my site to theirs and then choose to read more and get advice over there. I also have about 20 interviews lined up with many more seo celebrities and also people who are high up in the business world in general to get their input and ideas on search engine marketing related subjects.
I appreciate this being put on Sphinn and I appreciate everyone who Sphunn this.

Thanks a lot guys and I promise that the upcoming interviews will be a lot longer.

Unless some unexpected event changes my program, Joel Comm is going to be next!
