*** The Link Builder simply tracks the websites and pages you link to and sends an email message to that website owner/administrator notifying them of your link. ***
Helpful, or just another automated spam sending platform?
I am quite sure that the scummier end of the web will abuse this rather than use it.
Well, it's quite manual - not automatic at all. We designed the plugin so it only allows one message per link...after that, the function is disabled. We did it with spam in mind - and are trying to make sure it isn't abused that way.
The user gets to pick and choose who to send the message to, when to send it, etc.
It's really quite useful. Check it out and see for yourself...you wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion had you watched the video or downloaded it and gave it a spin. :)
Rereading your comment - I do see your point. I think the scummier end of the web will always abuse stuff rather than use it appropriately...it's their nature and they do it with everything they can. To make the tool useful, you will need to customize your email message and make it feel more natural/personal than a spammer could if they crack it and spam a little bit with it. It isn't designed for spammers and we took some precautions to keep the ordinary user from spamming but that doesn't stop the scum from spamming - I don't know if anything will stop that...
Looks like a nice tool James. And you're right, you do what you can to prevent abuse, but spamming idiots will always find a method to do what they do. Best thing is to keep fighting back and add more preventive features as you progress.
Cheers!
Nice job, James!
Really quick - and I should have put this in the post - but the inspiration behind this plugin is that I actually enjoy getting messages from people who link to our site because receiving messages like that does not happen very often. I hope you like it if you use it! Enjoy!
I just don't see this being any value.
A better idea for a tool would be to automatically clicks on all your outbound links so that the other webmasters see your referring traffic.
sending unsolicited emails is so 1990's
Lol - ok GerBot...
i just find it entertaining that while i usually pride myself on being at the cutting edge on search bsns developments, i just learned about this plugin.
@gerbot - lol yeah, unsolicited email is so l4//3 ... it's all about the 1337 referrer spamming n0// .
