http://twitter.com/mattcutts/statuses/865610396
there is also a exploit on twitter has well .. oh hmm
Harith 07/22/2008 11:07pm
Desphunn. I don't support promoting spamming twitter. That not spamming twitter,., now if you want me to tell you how to do that ok, but their infostructure can't take it..
Dave
lovely tip Dave, Thanks
cool Dave cool
i'm still pissed that Harith thinks this is spamming, I'm mean It my twitter page why shouldn't i link to myself without a nofollow if i can
thats not spam at all unless you think dave isn't relevant for his own domain name.
how you use the tools before you is up to you, most people use a hammer to build houses, but some will use it to break windows. But we don't go calling black & decker or stanley criminals because some uses their tools inaapropriately.
How is linking to your own site from your bio spamming? By the way, this "trick" can be used on SO many sites because most CMSs are designed to automatically turn anything containing http://www...com into a link. If the developers haven't applied a nofollow condition to that field then you get the good link. I shudder whenever I see people just put www. in press releases and distributed articles instead of including http:// . What a waste...
Like with all aspects of our industry, many different people have many different standpoints.
Some may see this technique as similar to code injection, or do not like the idea of purposely acquiring follow'd links.
Nothing to be pissed about, it looks like Harith just Desphunn to say that he didn't like the tip. Many others will Sphinn to say that they like it.
nah bollocks Rob :) Hairth didn't only deshunn he openly stated that Matt Cutts outed me for spamming which is what i took offence for http://sphinn.com/story/60752
DaveN,
If I did upset you as a person, pls accept my apology. It could be if you and I meet in real life, we migt like each other as persons.
But as a SEO, I still belive that in the current case of Twitter, you are promoting spam in daylight. I don't like that ;-)
we will have to disagree on the spam, like i said on your thread i feel sorry that you got so many negs.. but still don't feel matt was outing me has a spammer and i'm pretty sure the "Rumor has it.. Matt Cutts might join Apple as Head Of iPhone Team" isn't true either
DaveN,
"and i'm pretty sure the "Rumor has it.. Matt Cutts might join Apple as Head Of iPhone Team" isn't true either"
That was a joke :-)
Matt is an iPhone freak and he keeps posting iPhone posts, as you might have noticed. Therefore the "Rumor has it ..." :-)
"i feel sorry that you got so many negs."
No worries. 7 desphunn out of a community of several thousands, doesn't matter :-)
Actually.. I don't follow Matt that close..
DaveN
i think we should take bets at how long until this is gone.
i say by friday.
I did not know about this one..I think I have to try this later, too..^^
I've known about this for a while. It doesn't really make sense that it's set up this way, but it was nice the nofollow wasn't everywhere. I think twitter can afford to share, don't you?
This is a give and take, we promote twitter and need to get something out of it as well. Simple solution and thanks Dave ... will go ahead and check it out now.
If the requirements aren't evaluated and the site isn't strictly coded and security-evaluated many such flaws will exist that both hackers and opportunists will be taking advantage of.
It's up to the owners to decide if they want to have a platform that is easily gamed, or whether they want to tighten things up and mostly stay in control of their own site.
@Dave don't take my Desphunn wrong way .. I did that cuz i was not agreed with u !! I'm a subscriber and love ur blog, but about this topic I'm with Harith. This is not a natural way of building backlinks ...
Spammers will signup for 100 New accounts and will be able to get 100 Backlinks for there website/blog .. take it this way !!
