You realize that proneadvertising.com is Saleem, #2 user behind babyman on Digg, right? Of course he is going to parade out the social bookmarking spam poster boy when Digg is in last round negotiations with Google.
He still does not address that the Digg mafia exists and will be after any site that they just happen not to like that day. I published an articicle very critical of Digg's privacy policy and was accused of spam and banned minutes later.
I do have to say in Saleem's defense it was him who broke some of the big "Digg mafia exists" stories two years ago. However this is cleanup control and excuse making.
@Chris, first of all, I think msaleem would be the first to tell you that he doesn't consider himself an SEO. And you do know that while he has some affiliation with pronet, it's not like he owns the joint. Neil Patel is the head honcho there.
Secondly, you keep ranting about the "Digg mafia" ... if you would put as much effort into creating or finding content that Digg users would like as you do complaining that users who spend a TON of time on the site are rewarded, you'd probably be part of this so called "mafia" yourself.
That was painful to watch.
@Skitzzo: I am not arrogant, or ignorant, enough to speak for MSaleem (or anyone else for that matter) - however I can give my opinon of what he may agree with by using his own bio. Saleem runs a blog called "Social Media Strategies for New Media Entrepreneurs" and he states that he has written regular guest posts for about 8 sites... including a place called "Search Engine Land". MSaleem states on Pronet that he spends most of his time on Social Bookmarking sites and Networking site. So, although it's possible that Saleem is smart enough to not make claims of being an SEO Expert... he would probably be honest enough to say he knows a fair amount about SEO Tactics. Also, Saleem is one of four people listed as being "a part of Pronet Advertising". If you search the bios there is Neil Patel, Cameron Olthuis, Ryan Fujiu and Muhammad Saleem. This would place Saleem well above the "having some affiliation with Pronet" level.
On the Digg Mafia. You know, Skitzzo, the Brownshirts of Germany rewarded people who bowed to their will too. It got to the point where Fathers could not even speak their mind about the Government of Germany without worrying about little Hans reporting him to the local authorities... but who wants to live their life like that? Certainly not me. I neither fear the Digg Mafia or concern myself with them... except as something to write about in blogs or on the groups. As far as I am concerned, they can run around Digg all they want with open palms raised and saying "Hail Digg!" If that is their thing and it makes them happy, so be it. As for me? I'd rather post and Digg what I want based upon my own choices.
Since when did social media = SEO? If you read the posts (even on places like "Search Engine Land") they are about social media, not SEO.
And by "some affiliation" i meant I don't know whether he's a full time employee or just a contractor or what.
Did you seriously just compare Digg to the Nazis?
Here's the bottom line. A lot of people have this hatered for the top Digg users but they don't seem to realize the amount of time and effort that is put into contributing to the site at that level. The way you become a top digger is by submitting content that digg users like on a very regular basis.
However, many SEOs see Digg as nothing but a chance getting a few links and try to bend Digg around their content rather than creating content Digg users would naturally like. The same holds true for many other social media sites.
