Melanie tackles the present issue that faces SEO. Shes not the first to adress it, and possibly on the last. However she looks into aspects that are worth noting.

Note - this is on wolf-howl (Michael Gray’s blog)and Mel is the first guest blogger ever on it.

From the article : There is a harsh wind blowing through our industry. We all feel it. and if we don’t, perhaps we’ve got our heads in the sand. The truth is SEO’s are, for the most part, loathed.

"Is commenting on this opening me up to a wave of attack? Hope not!"Not to worry. This is just a repackaged "SEO isn’t bullshit" post - the only notable thing is its the first guest post I’ve read on wolf-howl (congrats on nailing that). Melanie could have used more references (e.g. Danny Sullivan’s post on SEL) and countless others to create a meaty, comprehensive post but instead she indulged in a disorganized rant.As the fake news bit highlighted, there is a predominating sense of "do whatever it takes to put a smile on a client’s face" attitude running rampant in the SEO industry, which undermines everything good we say about ourselves.

"The truth is SEO’s are, for the most part, loathed."Self serving jack ass seos maybe...but not the true professioanl seos. True search optimization professionals, in every situation I’ve witnessed, are respected and appreciated for the value they bring to their employers or clients.

Well, maybe.  But compared to the hatred I get as a domainer, any hatred I see for SEO is practically a love tap.

Perhaps SEOs can be like lawyers?  Loathed, rich, and really, really appreciated when needed?

I wouldn’t get too worked up about the people that hate SEOs.  How many of them are in your target market?  By definition, they’re not in the market to purchase SEO services.  The people that need to be educated about the value of SEOs are the business people that will purchase your services, not the college students ranting about what you submit on StumbleUpon.

SEO is always misuderstood..that’s why public should be educated more about what SEO is really is to avoid misconceptions and misunderstandings.

As a buyer of SEO services, I wrestled with this for a long time before I selected an SEO (which I am happy with) - and then I decided to do something about it, and make the decision process easier for those like me...head over to SEOTrac.com to sign up and be notified when the beta launches...
