The first day, I killed my own Mash Pet just to see what would happen It's dead, and "revive" Mash Pet" isn't in the drop down box...

I guess I'm too busy to dig into it and find out why, but this article makes it sound like I killed my own "golden goose backlink generator" ;)

It looks like it is more of an ice breaker than a real tool for backlinks. So far it works great to meet someone that you would normally never speak to.

Yeah, after commenting, I played for a few min - It's WILL generate a backlink though, to your Mash profile... I suppose could turn into a giant pain in the neck.

Let's say (assuming Google toolbar PR continues) someones profile had good PR, then all you have to do is "stroke their pet" to get a link back to your own profile, that's going to leading to mash pet spam.

Some other sites work like that, and that's ridiculous, and would cause me to stop using Mash in a heartbeat... (assuming I started using it much in the first place). I don't want to have to police something else too, from others abusing it.

Yahoo needs to nofollow these links before the idiots come attacking like blog commenting

It is the same method with Yahoo Mash guestbooks. Lots of linkbuilders used guestbooks a few years ago. But you would not be one of the people that know how to use them as backlinks would you?

If used properly to build the community they are an asset. But when used as an exploit, they can be a negative nightmare waiting to happen.

It is not only your Yahoo Mash Pet that is going to get ZAPPED!
