Alexa is becoming a joke lately. Some people claim that over the previous two years it was already losing reliability, but lately it went completely nuts. Whatever they did on the last algorithm update, it messed up their rankings badly.

I know that many people already ignore Alexa, but most advertisers still consider it when evaluate ad buys on websites, so I think we need to raise the awareness about it, and encourage them to use other available tools to gauge traffic.

Yes its too bad especially after the recent algorithom changes.

I have always liked Alexa because they rate websites rather than webpages. All these negative comments caused me to give Alexa another look. I ended up installing their toolbar in FireFox. The only thing wrong with Alexa was that they took forever to get a toolbar for FireFox, and now they have finally fixed that problem. Further Alexa's rating of Wikipedia in the bottom of the top 10 is about the same as compete.com. Evaluating websites based upon actual toolbar usage data is the wave of the future.
