"Link Building is figuring out ways to reach an audience that you normally wouldn’t reach, in order to get a competitive advantage."But its not scalable. And once you build enough authority you can nail rankings with internal anchor text instead of relying soley on backlink anchor text. Even if you reach out to those outside of the circle of linkeratis you still need to give them a reason to link in. Money is a reason but compelling content is a better reason. Just show them the page and they will not be able to resist linking. Like Lyndon said, bees and honey.
I prefer precise definitions that are one or two sentences long. This post gives anything, but a precise definition.
@Halfdeck; Sure, you always need to give someone a reason to link to you. With content marketing, youll probably aim at your regular audience to get new links. In stead, you could try to get Halo gamers to link to your credit card page ;)@JohnHGohde; the post wasnt meant as an attempt to define link building, but to explain why solely relying on traditional content marketing just isnt enough and to show that theres much more to it then directory submissions and sending out link requests.
@Wiep I stand by my previous comments, I prefer Wikipedian style write ups where what you intended to do is actually articulated. And, preferably in the first sentence or two.
Ill throw in my "Well Said!". Enjoyed reading just as you wrote it.
Echo. :)
