It's always scary when we see big corporations selling text links on their sites - but now The Times is publishing live text links for money keywords for Tesco.com...

I don't see that that is the end of the world. Depends why they bought the link though. If they bought it for traffic then sure go for it, however if they bought it purely for SEO benefits then yeh it's a bit shady.

'Tesco home insurance' probably would have been less dodgy!

Heya,

Tesco is a big corporation with lots of different divisions/companies inside of it. I believe the links you are looking at drive traffic to Tesco Personal Insurance at www.tescofinance.com. They're not the same people as Tesco.com.

Tesco.com one of your clients Andrew? Large companies can get away with it, all you have to do is type in a mega competitive phrase into Google and the top positions are riddled with large companies who are buying text links.

Yep. We work with some of Tesco.com. Without passing comment on the nature of the links iBrian has found - I think it is correct and fair to point out that they do not point to Tesco.com.

I had a feeling they might be, I'm suprised this hasn't gone homepage, it is nice to see some large companies being called out for buying and selling text links. You have balls iBrian!
