Google’s goal - to fight Facebook by being even more open than the Facebook Platform. If Facebook is 98% open, Google wants to be 100%.

The short version: Google will announce a new set of APIs on November 5 that will allow developers to leverage Google’s social graph data. They’ll start with Orkut and iGoogle (Google’s personalized home page), and expand from there to include Gmail, Google Talk and other Google services over time.

Right, sure... Their trend has been to close things (like even just the most important tool - the Search API) for years now and forcing developers to use (not open) javascript methods and "custom search engine" functionality where the data can’t be interacted with. I’ll believe it when I see it - but if this is true I’m glad for Facebook forcing their hand.

Google trends is pretty raw. Porn is filtered as are some pharma related terms, but new ones slide through for a few days before they get pulled.

Just to be clear, when I said their trend I didn’t mean Google Trends - I mean their overall modus operandi.

I’m curious - if this post, which is really just speculation about Google becoming more open in the future (November) is hot/popular, why was this http://sphinn.com/story/6262 regarding Google going social NOW not hot/popular?
