Sorry, I’m very bored with posts that just list other posts. Especially when the articles listed are quite old. That CopyBlogger post is this time last year and Lyndon’s is from May 2007. Great posts but hasn’t everyone read them now? Reminds me recording artists who keep putting out "Greatest Hits" or "Remix" albums every few months. I’d rather we saw more fresh content on here. At least have the decency to keep this for a "Best of 2008" post or something at Christmas/New Year? /grumpy

@nickwilsdon well instead of complaining... how bout you start writing something new!

@inkodeRTrue, I should probably "put up or shut up". I do try and submit material here regularly but I have been trying to get more active on the desphinn button. I think more active members should lead the way on that, as it’s a harder proposition if you’re new. You’re right though, if criticism comes across as complaining, I’ve stopped being contructive.  @Shana I didn’t desphinn this with as much tact as I usually try to put in, I apologise for that. As I said, these are all good posts but rehashing them in lists doesn’t offer any extra value in my book. I would recommend that the author adds some commentary (as Steven Bradley does so well). I want to know why he liked these posts or what he took away from them. Alternatively, post-lists are useful if they relate to a date, i.e. best links of the month/year (another point that makes Steven’s list so good). Posts like this make me wonder why we don’t just submit our Delicious bookmarks to Sphinn. It would seem a similar proposition to me. If someone wants to change my mind though, you’re welcome to have a go. :)

@NickWilsdon - dude wasn’t a personal attack and wasn’t calling you a whiner - just my way of encouraging you to step up to the plate. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. And absolutely nothing wrong with quality control either :)   But face it – people love lists, and if you someone “popular” in the community submits… You know the story.

@inkodeRAbsolutely - it’s the oldest linkbait in the book. You link to 50+ articles written by Sphinn members and it’s no surprise you make the 21 votes. You have 50+ people who have an interest in making this hot. Also, as you say, people love lists but I’d like to think we could move on a little from this play or at least take this up a notch or five, as Steven Bradley does. Sphinn should be more than somewhere we just read the news, it’s hands-on training in social submission. Lets push the standard here. My participation in Sphinn has taught me as much about the social web as the articles within it.  Don’t worry though, I didn’t take what you said as an attack. I really wouldn’t put it out if I couldn’t take it. I like to think I’m open to the opinions of others. If someone presents a good case I’ll always be willing to re-evaluate my position. Helps me learn :)

@NickI’m being a bit naughty here in that I’ve not actually had a look at the articles yet, but sometimes it’s worthwhile for a recap post like this for new SMMs.  Suppose it’s back to the positioning of Sphinn debate again...Additionally, while technology changes, invariably good tactics do not; so an effective strategy is ageless.  We wouldn’t dismiss someone linking to Shakespeare’s ten greatest tragedies on an English Lit bookmarking site by suggesting "everyone MUST have read these by now - they’re like over 400 years old!"

@ChrisODYes I see where you’re coming from and maybe my take is a little cynical but it does seem a little easy to push these kinds of lists to the frontpage. As someone fairly familiar with how things work, you can see this is going to be popular (mostly because it lists posts by Spinners who have a vested interest in pushing it). I’d be less cynical if the posts in this list were collected from further afield - are Sphinn members *really* the epicentre of social media? Maybe, but from my time on sites like SocialMedian.com and SocialMediaToday.com I have found many other authors outside these walls. My quick headcount says 8/15 (over 50%) of the authors mentioned in this piece have voted for this story in Sphinn. I don’t blame them for this but it shows how posts like this get popular. I like your example of Shakespeare. Although if you ran an English lit bookmarking site you too might get bored the 20th time you saw "10 Must-Read Shakespearean Tragedies" rising up the popular list? :)
