Digg has sold out. Their idealistic mission statement has taken a backseat to other priorities - be it money, power, ego, or whatever. We ’ve seen this happen over and over again. Somebody has a great new idea or invention or creative style. It starts out pure and magical and revolutionary. Then other priorities get in the way.

I agree that it’s nothing like it was when it was starting out... But, I think that Digg will continue to evolve in ways we can’t yet imagine, (the recommendation engine for example)... at least, until the next hot site comes along and everyone jumps on that wagon. I think it mainly has to do with advertising. I would be willing to bet that it’s the single driving force in the Newspaper industry... There is, as yet, no single social bookmarking estabishment that takes the ’Consumer Reports’ approach to content. Seems like there may be a bit of a political agenda working in the background too though, but that’s me tending to be a bit of a conspiracy theorist from time to time...
