Kelvin Newman does a good job analyzing why just adding "add this" type buttons is a copy out in social media efforts.

Don’t be a hater! :)Just because these buttons aren’t a panacea, doesn’t mean they should be cast into outer darkness. Speaking personally, I’ve used them from time to time myself, so I can’t in all honesty say they’re totally worthless.But you’re right -- it’s probably wildly overoptimistic to think they’ll make a huge difference for most blogs/sites.

I know in certain circumstances they could help, but why add them if you don’t think it will work?If it’s not relevant it’ll confuse your audience, I also wonder if the social media algo’s bear in mind if your site’s been submitted a lot but garnered few votes... If not they should
