I like #6 (asking friends and family). More friends with links would be nice. :)
Hey nowadays everybody can give you half a dozen links! Even your kids can link you at MySpace.
Nothing new here, but for SEO beginners this is a helpful list.
Please consider the headline. The easiest not the newest, most advanced or cutting edge methods. This is an overiew post not breaking news.
You missed #31 - making a stupid list people will link to
I like the widget idea - as long as the widget is fun, edgy, engaging and/or sticky. Fun questionnaire widgets with titles like "Can you outsmart a Terminator?" work for me.
"This is an overiew post not breaking news."So its not news, then, but posted to a news discussion site? :)To be fair, its not a bad list - but it is just a hobbyist list. Its something for bloggers, not competitive markets in SEO.Positive votes to TannerC and Incredibill for keeping it real.
I guess everyone seems to forget that they once were a "newbie" and needed info like this. Why does everyone always complain about lists like this. There are new people always wanting to learn what you "SEO Experts" know and hope that you would be willing to help. Thanks for the list,
Hey NotcredibeBILL, just read it, its point #22 ;-)rossbren: Useful and funny widgets work best :-)iBrian: Dont teach me how to Sphinn, you got 6 popular posts out of 50 and 475 votes cast.I got 141 submits and 56 gone hot plus 2286 votes. Work a little on your poor conversion rate and low activity level and then come back. Instead of "nagging for real" please contribute something of value.thejimgaugaudet: Some people think that Sphinn is for the 50 people who vote, but its also for the 500 people who visit the post. Thanks for the feedback. My last 3 posts each got 500 to 750 visitors from Sphinn alone, not to mention all other sources. So people better read my lists to learn how it works. Some think that they can elevate themselves by looking down on others, but it does not work that way. You got to be living proof. There are enough nag, nag, nag SEO forums out there. Please keep Sphinn clean of that.
@onreactBrian is being critical of the material not you, that is entirely within his right and doesnt deserve a personal attack. Everyone is allowed to voice an opinion on the quality of each sphinn, either through the comments or desphinn. On the numbers - if someone is contributing does it really matter if they have submitted 5 articles or 500? And submits arent the only way of contributing here, iBrian has made 360+ comments. Thats hardly low activity. Lastly, if were determining who is right or wrong by the number of hot sphinns, its going to be hard to encourage new members to join in and get feedback from SEO/SEMs who do not have the time to get that involved in the social side. As an active Sphinner, and someone who appreciates the traffic the site sends, I would think you wanted an environment that was as inclusive as possible?
Thats nice, onreact. You have a lot of friends who will sphinn your posts. Thanks for letting us know.
Its okay, onreact, Im not here teach people how to Sphinn. :)I really dont have a problem with basic material on sphinn, if it is recognised as much. When I came to this thread, TannerC had negative votes for stating this, without even being that critical. I wanted to add my voice to the balance."My last 3 posts each got 500 to 750 visitors from Sphinn alone, not to mention all other sources. So people better read my lists to learn how it works. "Congrats. I just got an email from a company telling me how I increased their sales by a half million dollars last month with minimal spend. Thats part of my success metric, not pageviews from Sphinn.News, useful opinion, unique insight - these can help drive a richer learning experience, for everybody, in my opinion.I guess thats my agenda, and I guess thats what I try to support within Sphinn. Im not going to force the issue, though. This is a community, I make my contribution where I can and try to make it general constructive. Ultimately, my business takes priority over my time.2c.
Nick: Appreciate your making the effort on cooling down the situation but in Germany we say "the tone makes the music". Im sorry I wont accept comments which add no value but are solely posted as descrutive critisism and in a very condescending manner. The comments message amounts to "it sucks" all in all. So if you think you need to voice such an opinion be prepared to face critisism yourself. iBrian: You know what? I dont care that that you have no problem with "basic stuff". You are no authority for me to tell me wat you care for and what not. You know whats basic? Netiquette and the ability to contribute to social media in a positive manner. How does bragging about your "half a mill" relate to the issue here? You think because you earn money for a company like we all do you are entitled to teach much more active community members whats "basics" and whats a problem? Mind your own business.
These are really great and easy ways to get links popular...^^ thanks a lot for sharing!
Sorry onreact - you were the one bragging and telling us how much we can learn from you. I was simply replying with context. If you wish to turn mild criticism into grounds for a personal attack, thats your perogative. In the meantime, peace out - in the grand scheme of things, none of this is worth an argument.2c.

I completely agree that qualitative links are of primary importance for the sites ranking and one has to be selective in getting links. Web development requires refined search and selectiveness. Anyway this is a good list of strategies for link building. thank you.(Mod edit: removed link drop.)</td> </tr></tbody></table>
iBrian: 61 votes, the by far most popular post on the Sphinn fp right now, the #2 has 53. Also 600 visits already. So what was your problem with it again? It does not fit on Sphinn? At least you found 6 people out of 60/600 to vote down my comments, congrats!
onreact:No offence here man, but geez... in my eyes, your comments around here lately have really taken a negative turn. Seems to be some unwarranted hostility and personal attacks floating around... hope all is well.
Thought I was on Digg for a second there.
It dialogs like this that go beyond the dialog and provide no value. In my case, they drive me away from Sphinn for a week or two. Tad ... with all due respect, the few times our paths have crossed, your comments have been negative. I truly hope you embrace some of the criticism here instead of counter-attacking. Having armyies of people that will vote for you undermines the entire concept here and in other places ... and you are a moderator at MIXX that suspends people for submitting their own stuff (which I honestly have no problem with and think its a big reason MIXX refuses to break out). Personal assaults are all over the web. Its really time for this stuff to stop. Theres plenty for everyone.
Burgo: Thanks, Im fine, could use a little more sleep these days. I completely agree with you. People saying things like "stupid list", "hobbyist list", "its not news, why post ot on a news discussion site" commenting the most popular post do not fit in here. inkodeR: Im glad were not otherwise this post would end up buried anonymously by the chosen few who dont like "hobbyists".charlieanzman: So youre still angry at me that you cant self-promote on my SEO 2.0 group at Mixx? There is a strict no self-promotion rule over at SEO 2.0 that sets my group apart from the 12 spammy SEO groups there. Thats why I get respected by the overall Mixx community. It seems you dont follow me much around, as Im pushing SEO in the most positive manner all over the place. So dont bring up your old grudges against me in a different context. Also you can join the SEO 2.0 network on Social|Median which allows self-submission. Its even more active by now than the Mixx group.
You must have a lot of links
"Im pushing SEO in the most positive manner all over the place"Sorry to call you on this Tad in spite of supporting some of your work including this recent article. Your quote from the message to charlieanzman stood out as a very odd statement to make in light of the fact that your comments in this thread are not upholding your standard of "pushing SEO in the most positive manner all over the place."
