That's not a hypothetical post like "what you ever wanted to ask Google". Google's Adam Lasnik requests:"Got questions?  We've got answers:  at least five (5) substantiveresponses to your picks on webmaster'y topics over the next two weeks. We invite you to ask questions in this thread that:- don't deal with a specific site or sites- are likely to be of interest to a great many webmasters around theworld- aren't already covered in one of our recent blog posts or in ourHelp CenterAnd in turn we will do one of the following for each response:- Start a thread in this group with a detailed answer.- Add new Help Center documentation or substantially revise anexisting doc to cover your question.- Do a blog post on the topic. "Now chime in folks!

I like it! It puts a lot of responsibility on the community to ask well thought out questions as well as Googlestaff to respond.  Hopefully there is a good response and it continues in its developement. Hopefully we get some good ideas beyond the normal why don't I rank for xxxx?, or please update PageRank every 10 minutes stuff.

Did anyone forget answers by Google employees will not reveal anything of true insight?

This should be the first clue nothing good will be forthcoming.

"ask questions in this thread that:- don't deal with a specific site or sites"

See they do not want to solve specific problems since doing so would require 'factual' answers.

Puppets of Corporations are not allowed to reveal facts.

The offer is akin to giving a starving man a rubber chicken.

I think the point of Adam's post is to ask for input from the community for 5 helpful articles they will write.  These articles are meant to be a help to everyone, not just some MFA site that got busted hiding links.  Sure it would be helpful to that one site owner to tell him why it may have dropped out, but not much help to the rest of the readers.  With the billions of pages out there I doubt Google will ever be able to offer one-on-one site diagnostics specially with the proliferation of made-up tin-foil-hat penalities out there dreamed up in webmaster forums.
