Im surprised not to find a single article by SEOptimise, 4 of them were for days on the frontpage this month, three of them got 60 - 70 votes each.
So you only vote for your own stuff?
Thanks for submitting the post Aidan. Im glad you liked it.Sorry I didnt link to you Tadeusz. Its impossible to link to everyone. There are many great posts each month that I never see let alone link to. Going hot on Sphinn is not a requirement, in fact if anything it would be a post I figure most people have seen already. I realize I link to a lot of popular content, but Ive been trying to make more of an effort to link to posts people may not have seen during the month.Mostly though, theres just no way to link to every great post out there.
Sweet as Steven. As you mentioned youve being linking to a lot of the smaller, maybe not so well known blogs. I liked that fact as you can come across some real gems.
inkodeR: Come on, you know me, I vote mainly for other peoples stuff, so asking me this question can only be irony.Yeah, vangogh, its impossible to link to everyone but to leave out 3 of the most popular links of this month makes this list utterly incomplete and biased.
@onreact "Utterly incomplete and biased." Get real Tad - Steven is just doing this in his own time. Hes not signed any kind of binding contracts saying this will be a full list of the months events, its just a roundup of the posts he read and found interesting. Maybe this sites not in his reader? Once he starts charging for a monthly round-up, then you can subscribe and start beating him for the sites he has missed. Until then, the guys free to include, exclude or miss out any sites he wants.
Tad, again sorry for not linking to you this month. I dont really see my roundup post as necessarily linking to the most popular posts each month. Im not trying to repeat the Sphinn hot list for example. Every month there are great posts that for whatever reason either dont catch my attention or just dont end up in the post.Sometimes its as simple as me being very busy one week and not having time to read so most anything thats posted during that week just doesnt get included for no fault of the post, but rather my own schedule. This month for example I didnt have a lot of time to spend on Sphinn. I couldnt even tell you what the most popular posts here were this month. As much as I read I still miss a lot more posts than I find. And again the post for me is not about linking to the most popular stuff out there. If the posts are that popular doesnt it stand to reason theyve been seen by most people already. Not that I dont link to popular posts, but its not my objective. Every month someone could easily complain they werent included. The one thing Ive learned writing these posts is that there are a lot more great posts in the seo community than any one person to link to.
Come on guys, check the headline, its "This month in SEO", its not "my selective and incomplete favorite links from August". If you offer a round up post you must deliver otherwise its "label fraud" as we say in German. I dont call a bike a car either just to get more attention.
So what youre saying is from now on I need to read every single post written by everyone in the SEO industry and come to a completely objective decision about which are the best posts for the month or I cant use that title.Tad I think youre being a little unrealistic here. You do read posts in the industry, dont you. How many titles do you see that arent perfect representations of the post within? Are you asking everyone who posts with a title that includes top 10 to back up the claim? Or do they all need to change their titles too now.Im not exactly sure what part of This Month in SEO claims to be anything other than what I present. The title isnt This Months Top Sphinn Posts. Its not The Unequivacal Best Posts from the Month in SEO, Its not These are the Algorithmically Determined Absolute Best Posts from the Month in SEO.Everything you read is information filtered through the author. So this post is the month in SEO as filtered through me.
This is precious. Not only have lists of regurgitated items taken over Sphinn instead of new thoughtful content but now people are fighting over what should be on the lists.Turn up the drama please while I just sit back and munching popcorn,
Bill Ill get the projector out for you.One thing Id argue though is my post isnt quite just typical regurgiated links. A number of people have let me know the links in the post arent that important to them and they actually enjoy the writing around the links. The post isnt simply a list of links.
I get an enormous amount of value from Stevens list. Like him, my time is limited and I have trouble consistently keeping up with my reading. Obviously hes more successful than me, because theres always a tonne of articles in his summary that I havent found. His commentary adds further value and helps determine which posts are of value to me. This aint a normal list post and I think people should appreciate the time Steven takes to put this together each month. Its a great resource for the industry.
Thanks James. Appreciate the kind words.
