Well, as I said, if you only read 2 blogs SEL & SEW push daily link posts out, that have links to many other sites that have new and interesting news & perspectives. You'll find that quite a few SEOmoz posts make it into those daily link posts, so people can find them that way, along with other informative sites.
Good post Simon....as an in-house SEO I am constantly reading, studying, applying, and networking. Some would say, it's a 'full time' job! ;)
If I didn't love what I do, I might go crazy!!
Thank you for the in-house insight.
As a former educator (and sometimes in-house trainer), I am a huge fan of education. One thing to remember is the in-house education should go both ways. You should teach others about SEO and you should be open to learning about other departments in your company. The better you understand their processes/products/ etc., the better you can help them (and find ways for them to help you).
This is a great post, as in-house SEMs are becoming more prevalent these days than ever before.
One thing not really mentioned that we have found really is to have some in-house training brought in. When we consult with companies who have in-house SEM/SEOs, that person usually knows what they're doing. But the people he/she needs to rely on to get things done, i.e., the content providers, the developers, etc. don't always understand the reasoning behind the SEO recommendations. Often bringing someone from the outside in to teach the whole gang can start to get them on board.
For whatever reason, an outside expert is often listened to more than the poor in-house guy/gal.
