Barry’s headline is an apt description of this oddly engaging Microsoft ad. If you haven’t seen it, the Search Engine Land piece has the link to YouTube.

I found it amusing, but also just dont get what they are trying to accomplish. If I were contemplating getting a mac, this would not be an ad that would sway me back to microsoft. Amusing yes, Funny yes, but not genius like the Mac ads.

The first line of Barry’s article hits the nail on the head."Everyone is talking about the new Microsoft TV ad featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. "I’ll pass on quotes form the Ad Agency I work (www.measd.com).Mark Albertazzi"Does exactly what’s intended, announces something is coming and to keep an eye out for it. Just by our little groups exchange its now part of a larger discussion. When you have a vault full of money (read $300 million) to spend you can afford to do a teaser like this. Like it or not, I bet the “linked-to-numbers” for this video are off the hook. - mark"Jim Matthews"Appears to be a teaser campaign for something.  If so, one good thing is that it doesn’t give it away.  From and image standpoint, you either like it or you don’t...."

Just like most of MS marketing efforts it is crap.  e are talking baout it in our little SEO/marketing bubble because it is crap.  My guess the main stream people simple have zoned it out.
