Web site owners and marketers have always craved more information with regards to how Google sees their site. Google Webmaster Tools address these and other needs as they provide support for those looking to diagnose errors, improve a site’s visibility and declare preferences on how to handle web site listings.

Honestly, I hadn't dug deeply enough into the newer Webmaster Tools functionality. Eric's article helped guide me into some of the cooler tools, e.g., the Googlebot activity graphs. Three cheers.

Thanks Winooski, glad you enjoyed it.  Interesting too how Google hides those graphs until you click the little arrows.

For fun, run log analysis on GoogleBot, then compare the graphs to what Google Webmaster Tools provides.  You will see some differences :)

wow. so i hadn't seen those graphs before. thanks for pointing that out here.

so, what can you do if your Googlebot crawl rate has dropped significantly recently? is there anyway to encourage Googlebot to come back more often? i have a site that hasn't been accessed by Googlebot since april. the site has had updates and fresh content added several times since then.
